What is WordPress? That is a fairly meta question since this text is actively being input into a WordPress interface. For some, it is a CMS tool; for others, it is a blogging platform. Developers, designers, content authors—and many others in between—use it to run their business, earn a paycheck, earn affiliate sales, improve their hard skills, give back to the community, and a host of many other things. Whatever your involvement is, there is always something new to learn, and something you can teach. If you’re in the Los Angeles area on Monday, April 18th at 7:00 pm PST, we hope you will come learn and teach with us. We are holding our first WordPress Mentoring Meetup, with keynote speaker Natalie MacLees! The event is being hosted at The Apple Store in Santa Monica (1415 3rd St, Santa Monica, CA 90401), in their business center. Natalie comes to us with many years of WordPress development and design experience. She is the founder and principal of the interactive agency, Purple Pen Productions, where they build affordable websites for small businesses and non-profits. Natalie is the author of the book, jQuery for Designers, and she is the founder of the Los Angeles chapter of Girl, Develop It. Girl Develop It is a non-profit organization focused on providing adult women with affordable programs and classes, who are interested in web and software development. We are expecting a really intimate setting, where people with varying talent and experience levels will be come together for a great evening. We will kick off the evening with short introductions from all attendees, then hop right into Natalie’s presentation. We’ll wrap up Natalie’s segment with a short Q&A, and then head into an open forum discussion where participants will ask the audience specific questions, and get answers from the audience. This segment will lead to a lot of great back-and-forth, and really embody the WordPress community and culture. The evening will close with general networking and, hopefully, some mentorships will be born!
